Jordan and Egypt Thursday called for a strategic approach and cooperation to combat terrorism, media reported.

At a meeting between King Abdullah II of Jordan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Amman, the two sides agreed it was fundamental right to fight groups that tarnish the image of Islam, Xinhua reported citing the state-run Petra news agency.

They also stressed on the need to highlight the true image of Islam as a religion of peace and tolerance.

They called for more efforts by the international community to help resume peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The two leaders warned against measures to change the status quo in the holy city.

The talks also covered the situation in Syria and Iraq.
