Guatemala City, Aug 7 (IANS/EFE) A veteran broadcast journalist was fatally shot Tuesday in the eastern province of Zacapa, Guatemalan authorities said.
Luis de Jesus Lima, 68, was killed by two assailants on a motorcycle as he was getting out of his car in front of the radio station where he hosted a music and information programme.
The journalist was pronounced dead at the scene in the La Reforma neighbourhood of Zacapa city, paramedics said.
Lima worked for a range of media outlets over the course of a long career.
Guatemala is among a number of countries, including Haiti, India, Mexico, Nigeria and Yemen, where journalists find themselves at increasing risk, according to a report released last month by the Press Emblem Campaign.
Lima's murder brings to three the number of journalists slain in Guatemala so far this year.
