The training for judo and karate will be given to over 90,000 girl students in Uttar Pradesh, an official said Wednesday.
An order was issued Tuesday by the secondary education department. It makes judo and karate training for girl students in all government schools mandatory as a part of self-defence.
Manoj Kumar Singh, principal secretary (secondary education) has directed education officials to promote self-defence among school girls.
Officials said the training will be part of the curriculum for 2014-15 academic session. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav gave this instructions to the education department few months back amid rise in crime against girls and women.
Munavvar Anzaar, general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Judo Federation has been made the advisor of the programme.
