A 76-year-old record was broken in Kanpur on Tuesday when the city received 31 mm rainfall in a single day in the month of May.
The rains came in after a dust storm late on Monday night and carried well into the day.
Met officials said this was the highest rainfall the city has received in a single day in the month of May in more than seven decades. The rains came as a blessing for the farmers and the common people as it brought down temperatures drastically.
Following the rains, the minimum temperature dropped from 29 degrees Celsius to 19 degrees Celsius.
