Kedarnath restoration work likely to be over by October

Work on conservation of the Kedarnath temple complex, which was damaged in the massive landslides in Uttarakhand last year, is progressing and is likely to be completed by October, an official release said here Friday.

The task of conserving the temple was entrusted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) after the colossal tragedy struck Kedarnath.

"Despite a slight delay in starting the work this season due to inclement working conditions, conservation of the temple complex is now progressing at a fast pace," the release said.

"Depending upon weather conditions and time available, this work is expected to be accomplished by Oct 20," it added.

Major works to be accomplished in the temple this year include packing the stones wherever missing, providing wooden flooring inside the temple, cleaning of interior and exterior of the temple, preserving its stone surfaces and repairs to the temple steps and stone plinth.
