Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Monday supported the Congress Working Committee's (CWC) move to urge its Vice President Rahul Gandhi to take over as the party chief.

"Rahul Gandhi is quite capable of leading the party and seeing that it moves forward in a disciplined manner," said the Opposition leader in the assembly.

"His leadership will benefit at a time when the country is passing through difficult times," the former state Congress chief said in a press release. Sonia Gandhi has been the Congress President since 1998.
