Kolkata Mayor Sovon Chatterjee worth over Rs.3.5 crore

Kolkata mayor and Trinamool Congress heavyweight Sovon Chatterjee has declared assets worth over Rs.3.5 crore.

Chatterjee, who is defending the Behala East constituency in South 24 Parganas, declared his annual income for 2013-14 to be Rs.26.35 lakh.

His movable assets are valued at Rs.1.04 crore and comprise of bank deposits amounting to Rs.68.15 lakh, insurance policy of Rs.21.40 lakh and jewellery worth over Rs.7.53 lakh.

His immovable properties carry a market value of Rs.2.67 crore and include non agricultural land worth Rs.35.87 lakh, two commercial buildings worth Rs.1.53 crore and a residential building with market value of Rs.78 lakh.

One of the several Trinamool leaders caught in a sting operation purportedly taking bribe, Chatterjee's assets have grown by over Rs.1 crore in the last five years.

As per his affidavit filed for the 2011 assembly polls, Chatterjee with an annual income of Rs. 2.40 lakh, possessed properties - both movable and immovable - worth over Rs.2.45 crore.

While Chatterjee doesn't own a car, there are four cars registered in his wife Ratna's name including a Maruti Zen purchased in 2000 for Rs.20,000 and a Wagon R purchased in 2007 for Rs. 35,000.

A businesswoman, Ratna's annual income for 2013-14 was Rs.30.36 lakh and she possesses properties worth over Rs.3 crore.
