Lamba attack case: DCW issues fresh summons to police

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday issued fresh notice to the Delhi Police to appear before it along with a CCTV footage regarding the attack on AAP legislator Alka Lamba last week during her anti-drugs drive.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal asked Kashmere Gate station house officer (SHO) Bijender Singh to appear before the commission on August 20 along with the CCTV footage and a status report on all the complaints registered into the case.

Maliwal's action came in the wake of her over an hour-long meeting with the Chandni Chowk legislator and the SHO at her office in New Delhi on Monday evening.

"Investigation into the case has begun and fresh written summons have been issued to the Kashmere Gate SHO to appear before the DCW on August 20 along with the CCTV footage of the entire matter and the status report on all the complaints," Swati Maliwal told media persons.

Maliwal also suggested Lamba to register her complaint, which she had submitted to the DCW, at the Kashmere Gate police station on Tuesday.

Maliwal had on August 13 issued notice to the SHO and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Madhur Verma after her meeting with Lamba.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Lamba suffered a head injury after a 19-year-old boy, working at a sweet shop, hurled a stone at her during her anti-drug drive at Kashmere Gate on August 9. The assailant was later arrested.

Later, on the basis of seven complaints by shopkeepers, police also booked Lamba for vandalising some shops in the area.

Interacting with the media after her meeting with the DCW, Lamba expressed satisfaction over the DCW's handling of the case and demanded strict action against BJP MLA O.P. Sharma.

"I am satisfied that the DCW is taking up the case seriously. I want a fair probe from the DCW and the police as well," Lamba said.

"It is a long battle. Strict action should be taken against O.P. Sharma who used disgraceful language against me and threatened me," she said, adding her battle against drugs would continue.
