Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla, BCCI disciplinary committee head Arun Jaitley and Law Minister Kapil Sibal met here Friday to discuss a new law to check fixing in sporting events.
"We need a law so that fixing in all sports could be controlled and eliminated," Shukla told reporters after the meeting.
"We want the law to be enacted as early as possible. We went to meet Kapil Sibal to discuss it," he said, adding that soon they would meet Sports Minister Jitendra Singh.
"He (sports minister) also wants a strong law to be in place. So we will meet him as well to smoothen the passage of such a law," Shukla added.
Responding to a query about whether Board of Control for Cricket in India president N. Srinivasan should step down pending an inquiry against his son-in-law, the IPL chairman said: "The Ravi Sawani committee is investigating it. Let it submit a report, then the disciplinary committee will take a final decision on it."
Srinivasan has come under attack after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan, chief executive of Chennai Super Kings team, was summoned by the Mumbai police in connection with the IPL spot fixing scandal.
Three cricketers and several others have been arrested for spot fixing matches in the ongoing sixth edition of IPL.
