As monsoon has continued to be active in Madhya Pradesh, sluice gates of nine of the 16 dams in the state have been opened to release water, officials said on Sunday.

They said continuing rains have swollen the reservoirs of the nine dams and so excess water needed to be released.

Four sluice gates of Kolar dam, one each of Kerwa, Krishnagopal and Mahi, 10 of Indira Sagar, five each of Omkareshwar and Gandhi Sagar and four each of Sardar Sarovar and Rajghat dams have been opened.

Thirty of the state's 51 districts have received 20 per cent excess rains in the last few days. Eighteen districts have received average rains and three have received deficient rains.

The districts that have received excess rains are Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Satna, Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemach, Ratlam, Shajapur, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Hoshangabad, and Betul.
