The Maharashtra government has decided to open three new special courts for handling Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases, an official said here Wednesday.
One new court will be set up in Mumbai and two in Nagpur, the state's second capital. The courts are expected to cater to increasing number of cases.
The move follows a directive by the Supreme Court to open 22 special CBI courts to ensure speedy disposal of cases.
According to the central government approval, the state government decided to set up three new courts in Maharashtra only to handle CBI cases.
Earlier, the state government set up six special CBI courts, including three in Mumbai and one each in Nagpur, Pune and Amravati, the official said.
