Telecom Secretary M.F. Farooqui Thursday said the information and communication technology (ICT) manufacturers should meet the standard norms of developing countries if they want their businesses to multiply manifold.

He said the telecom industry has grown by leaps and bounds in the past three decades but the manufacturers should start reinventing to go to the next level.

He was speaking on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) in association with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and Seconded European Standards Expert in India.

In order to establish the future standards of ICT in India, ETSI is looking forward to more tieups with industry players, Adrian Scrase, chief technology officer of the organisation said.

"We have footprints in more than 66 countries and India has an emerging economy hence it is an important destination. It plays an important role in ICT. More tieups with the industry will help us establish better future standards," Scrase said.

ETSI has already tied up with Global ICT Standardization Forum for India and COAI to carry forward the task of setting standards for the Indian ICT companies, he said.
