A 22-year-old man was fatally injured early on Friday when an auto-rickshaw driver and his accomplice threw him from the moving vehicle during a robbery, police said.
Victim Hafiz and his brother Nafiz, 20, hired the auto-rickshaw from near Akshardham temple in east Delhi for Badarpur border in south Delhi around 4 a.m.
After driving for around 500 metres, the driver took on board his accomplice, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Omvir Singh.
Nafiz said in his police complaint that the auto-rickshaw driver and his accomplice tried to rob them of their money and belongings at knife-point, which was resisted by Hafiz.
The accused threw Hafiz out. He was run over by the moving vehicle and died on the spot.
Nafiz said the two accused then threw him out of the three-wheeler and escaped with their belongings.
"We are trying to identify the accused with the help of closed-circuit television footage from the area. Prima facie, a gang is involved in the crime," the officer said.
The brothers hail from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh and worked as labourers in Faridabad area of Haryana.
