Some major North Korean websites remained inaccessible Monday with the country's internet outage continuing for a week now.

North Korean websites, including Uriminzokkiri, Ryugyong and Ryomyong, could still not be accessed, Yonhap News Agency reported. The internet servers of the affected sites are located in China.

Meanwhile, the home pages of other locally-based sites, including the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and the Rodong Sinmun daily newspaper, were stable.

It has been a week since the country's internet connectivity went down Dec 23.

Speculation is rife of a cyber attack by the US as the outage came just days after US President Barack Obama vowed a "proportional" response to North Korea's alleged hacking attack into Sony Pictures.

Pyongyang threatened to retaliate against Sony's release of a movie which deals with an assassination story targeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, but it has denied responsibility for the Sony hacking.
