Maoist rebels killed three villagers and injured four others in Jharkhand's Khuti district, police said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the militants belonging to banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) fired indiscriminately on villagers, who had gathered for a Gram Sabha meeting on Monday night.
The larger part of the crowd gathered at the meeting had left and only around 15 villagers were still in discussion, when PLFI ultras appeared and started firing on them.
Three people died on the spot while four were injured. The injured were rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi.
The incident took place at Raytodang village situated under Arki police station of Khuti district which is around 65 km from here. Khuti is a stronghold of PLFI ultras.
Police sources say that the PLFI militants are frustrated with the villagers for regularly holding meetings against them. The killing was executed to create panic.
The Maoists are active in 18 of the 24 districts in Jharkhand.
