Thousands of Jordanians took to the streets Friday calling for revenge for the killing of a Jordanian pilot by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

After midday prayers in downtown Amman, more than 5,000 Jordanians held a demonstration with the participation of Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Death to the Islamic State. Death to their supporters. We will take revenge," chanted the demonstrators, holding Jordanian flags and pictures of King Abdullah II of Jordan and the killed pilot.

Yehua Soud, a lawmaker who took part in the event, said, "We are here to send a message to the terrorists of the IS. We will kill them and take revenge."

As the demonstration started, several media reports indicated that the Jordanian fighter jets launched airstrikes against the IS in Mousel in Iraq, killing 35 IS terrorists.

In Karak, the hometown of the pilot, Moaz Kasasbeh, who was burnt alive by the IS in a cage, thousands took part in a demonstration. He was captured late last year after his plane crashed in Raqqah in Syria.
