Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway (Eastern Peripheral Expressway) project, intended to relieve Delhi from traffic congestion.

The 135-km expressway, built at a cost of around Rs 11,000 crore, will reduce traffic time between Kundli and Palwal in Haryana from over four hours to around 72 minutes.

There are eight solar power plants along the Expressway having a capacity of 4 MW.

Launching the expressway, Modi said that in four years of his rule so far, the highest attention was paid to the infrastructure so as to develop every section of the society.

"The modern infrastructure of the country has a very important role in improving lives of all the 1.25 crore people of the country.

"With this, everyone is on the path of development, because infrastructure does not distinguish between caste, creed, community, rich and poor," he said.

Earlier, Modi inaugurated the first phase of the 8.36 km, 14-lane Delhi-Meerut Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 841.50 crore, which will start from Nizammudin Bridge and go till Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border.

He said that good infrastructure was creating equal opportunities for everyone.

"That's why our government has given the highest attention to infrastructure of highways, railways, airways, waterways, and and that of electricity."

Over the last four years, he said, the BJP-led NDA government spent more than 3 lakh crore to create new highways covering more than 28,000 km.
