A tweet from Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Unified Payment Interface (UPI)-enabled transactions has helped auto-rickshaw aggregator Jugnoo launch "Jugnoo Pay" app for easy payment.
Jugnoo, working towards the launch of its UPI-enabled payment solution, had been facing certain technical issues in terms of Software Development Kit (SDK).
Looking for help, Jugnoo Founder and CEO Samar Singla on November 27 tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about their problem.
"@narendramodi maybe banks should give us UPI sdk at least. Have been trying for months via @jugnoose," Singla tweeted.
Within 48 hours of this message, Modi tweeted a picture asking people to adopt UPI-enabled payment system.
"Time has come for everyone, particularly my young friends, to embrace e-banking, mobile banking & more such technology," Modi tweeted.
In a response, Singla again tweeted on November 30: "@narendramodi Job done! Thanks! Super stoked to see PM getting things done on Twitter in 48 hrs via @jugnoose."
"Jugnoo Pay" is a solution that allows merchants to request and consumers to approve payments directly using their respective bank accounts with their mobile number as an identifier.
Following the launch of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) application by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) towards the end of November this year, there were 30 banks offering the UPI app on Google play store.
Jugnoo collaborated with YES Bank to enhance the reach of UPI-based payment solutions and Jugnoo Pay works with all the NPCI approved 19 banks across the country at present.
