Borussia Monchengladbach clinched the first place in Group A by beating FC Zurich 3-0 at home in UEFA Europa League's last round of the group stages.
Monchengladbach secured the top spot in Group A and their berth in the round of 32 as they cruised to a 3-0 over hapless Zurich thanks to the brace by Sweden international Branimir Hrgota in front of 44,323 spectators at the Borussia-Park Thursday, reported Xinhua.
Zurich will have to focus on domestic matters as second placed Villarreal joined the Monchengladbach in Europa League's last 32 from Group A.
Monchengladbach completed the group stage atop the standings with 12 points, followed by Villarreal with 11 points, Zurich with seven points and Apollon Limassol with three points.
"The team staged a very focused performance and they deserved to win 3-0," Monchengladbach's director of sport Max Eberl said after the clash.
