Lashed by overnight rains, parts of the city remained under pools of water, knee-deep in some areas, on Tuesday.
In some areas, water also entered some houses.
According to the weather office, rainfall occurred at most places over sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and at many places over Gangetic West Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rain occurred at a few places over Kolkata, South 24 Parganas & East Midnapore districts.
The chief amount of rainfall recorded in the State was 18 cm in Haldia, 17 cm in Diamond Harbour and 16 cm in Alipore.
In Kolkata, areas like Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, Garden Reach, Behala, Watgunge, Khidirpur and Hyde Road were severely waterlogged. Some areas witnessed accumulation of knee-deep water.
"Every year, water enters our houses and we are immensely troubled," said a resident of Watgunge.
In Mukundapur area, the residents saw no difference even after speaking to the authorities.
"Water accumulates every year, and sometimes water stays for 2 to 7 days and even a month. We face immense trouble in moving out, especially taking children to the school. We catch fever as the canal water overpours and it is dirty so we get infections in our legs," a Mukundapur resident said.
The maximum temperature was 29.6 degrees Celsius and minimum 24.1 degrees which are 3 notches below average. The relative humidity touched 97 percent.
The Regional Meteorological Centre here hss issued heavy rainfall warning for the next three days.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) is likely to occur over Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Kalimpong districts of north Bengal. Also, one/two places likely over the districts of South Bengal will receive heavy rainfall (7-11 cm).
