Former Manchester United manager David Moyes said he turned down "a lot of offers" from English Premier League clubs in the summer to remain at Spanish club Real Sociedad.

The Scot endured a dismal 10-month spell in charge of United that ended with him being dismissed in April of last year but he has gone a long way towards restoring his reputation since moving to Spain in November.

Moyes said he was inundated with offers from English sides after leading Sociedad away from the drop zone and to a creditable 12th-placed finish in La Liga last season but said he is happy.

"I am really enjoying the experience. I have a very good relationship with the club and I am very happy," Moyes was quoted as saying by El Diario Vasco on Sunday.

"This summer I received a lot of offers to return to the Premier League but I have decided to stay here because I believe in this project and I believe in the players. We have players who I know much better now," he said.

The coach is adamant that Sociedad, who have drawn their opening two fixtures in La Liga, can aim much higher this season, particularly with Asier Illarramendi having rejoined the club from Real Madrid.

"Real Sociedad fans are fantastic; they know that the club is trying to join the other teams who are always in the top part of the table - to get as close to them as possible," Moyes said.
