Former Trinamool Congress heavyweight Mukul Roy returned to Kolkata on Monday from New Delhi, three days after he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Amid loud cheers from his followers, Roy came out of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at around 1.30 p.m.
Several activists of the BJP's West Bengal unit were present to welcome him. Roy headed straight to the BJP head office.
Roy, one of the founding members of the Trinamool Congress, quit the party on September 25 citing "ideological differences" and resigned from the Rajya Sabha on October 11.
He joined the BJP on November 3 in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.
