Myanmar President U Thein Sein on Wednesday discussed with National League for Democracy (NLD) chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi the systematic power transfer in the country following the November 8 parliamentary elections that gave the opposition NLD a massive mandate, an official said.

U Thein Sein congratulated the NLD leader on her party winning the parliamentary elections, Xinhua reported citing presidential spokesperson U Ye Htut.

During the dialogue between the two which was based on national reconciliation, Suu Kyi thanked President U Thein Sein on amending the law to enable NLD to re-participate in the political process from 2012, cooperating with other parties and for holding free and fair elections as promised.

Both sides also discussed the process of government-transition in the country post-elections, U Ye Htut said.

The dialogue took place in response to a request by Suu Kyi in her letter to U Thein Sein on November 11 after her party won by a landslide in the general elections.

The meeting came after her prior talks with U Shwe Mann, speaker of parliament's house of representatives (lower house), on November 19, in which the pair agreed to emphasise on national reconciliation and consolidation in forming parliament for the next term through coordination and cooperation.

Suu Kyi was also scheduled to meet commander-in-chief of the defence services Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing.
