Former Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar was on Monday appointed as consultant to the anti-corruption unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a move to strengthen it.

IPS officer Madhusudan Sharma was also appointed in BCCI anti-corruption unit, a BCCI release said.

Earlier on April 14, BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya disclosed that the Indian cricket board was considering appointing an experienced consultant "with impeccable reputation" to bolster its Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), especially in matters related to the IPL.

The decision to appoint Neeraj Kumar was taken at Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council meeting here, headed by IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla.

Dalmiya has said: "In order to further strengthen the Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI, especially in matters related to IPL, it is being contemplated to bring in someone with impeccable reputation and having experience in presiding over challenging investigations relating to sporting frauds as a consultant in addition to the existing set up."

The governing council also supported the proposal of IPL chairman Shukla to consider supporting the blind cricket team of India, who recently won the World Cup. The proposal has been recommended to the Working Committee of the BCCI.

The venues for IPL 2015 playoff matches was also finalised in the meeting.

Pune will host the eliminator on May 20. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai will stage the second Qualifier on May 22, with the final scheduled to be played in Kolkata on May 24.

The venue for the first Qualifier on May 19 is to be decided shortly.
