Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Thursday inaugurated the new "rat proof" at the state's leading government hospital here.

"This morgue is rat proof. People do not have to worry about it," he said.

Media reports last week said the dead bodies stored in Goa Medical College's morgue were often nibbled by rats. A doctor also confirmed the rat menace in the mortuary.

Parrikar did not deny the presence of rats in the morgue but contended that the rodents were taking refuge in the morgue because of soil testing exercises near the hospital.
