Mogadishu, March 12 (IANS/EFE) Nine people were killed and 12 injured on Thursday when al-Shabab militants attacked the local government headquarters in the southern Somali city of Baidoa, sources said.
Several explosions occurred in the morning as militants stormed the residential compound of Baidoa president Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan.
Security forces later took control of the area where the offices of the African Union and United Nations are also located.
Among the injured were five soldiers from the African Union Mission in Somalia, the sources confirmed to Efe.
