No casualties were immediately reported as strong tremors were felt in parts of Pakistan on Monday after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Tajikistan.
According to the media, the tremors were mainly felt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, including Swat, Malakand, Peshawar and Chitral, as well as the country's capital Islamabad, Xinhua reported.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre said the tremors were the shocks of a 7.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Tajikistan at a depth of 88 km. The US Geological Survey put the earthquake intensity at 7.2 magnitude.
The tremors created panic among residents who rushed out into the open. No loss of life or property was reported yet.
Pakistan is one of the most earthquake-prone regions of the world with high vulnerability.
On October 26, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Pakistan, killing at least 280 people and injuring over 1,900 others.
In October 2005, a powerful 7.4-magnitude quake jolted parts of the country, killing over 80,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands of others homeless.
