No player revolt in camp: Ghana FA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Wednesday denied reports of player revolt in the camp of the national team, the Black Stars, following last Monday's 1-2 defeat to the United States in the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Reports in the local media suggested the players of the Black Stars boycotted the team's preparations for their next game with Germany in Fortaleza Saturday over unpaid appearance fees, reports Xinhua.

Others also claimed some of the senior players were threatening to leave camp in protest of the selection policy of head coach Kwasi Appiah in the match against the US.

But the Ghana FA has dismissed the reports, saying it is "absolutely false and has no basis in fact" .

"There is no player revolt against the coach of Black Stars and no player or players have been involved in any mutiny in the wake of the defeat to the United States," the FA said in a statement.

"All the 23 players were present at training Tuesday afternoon under the guidance of Coach Kwasi Appiah," it said.

According to local media reports, a scheduled press conference Tuesday was cancelled 'due to what is reported to be a case of player revolt.'

However, the GFA has described the report as untrue, saying the press conference was rescheduled from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Brazil time because the squad only arrived in Maceio from Natal at 3 a.m.

"We wish to assure Ghanaians that coach Kwasi Appiah and all his players have shifted their focus to the match against Germany on Saturday, keen on winning the match to revive the Black Stars' chances of progressing to the knock-out stage of the competition," the FA said.
