BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi said he will not "waste" time by launching a "witch-hunt" against his political opponents or individuals, including Robert Vadra, but added that no one was above the rule of law howsoever highly placed.
"I am not going to waste my time in launching a witch-hunt against my political opponents or other individuals," Modi told IANS in an e-mail interview when asked whether Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law will be sent to jail if his wrongdoing were proved in land deals.
He continued: "I cannot afford to make the same mistake which the Congress party has made in the last 10 years.
"However, it goes without saying that our country is governed by the rule of law and be you ever so high, the law is always above you.
"Even if there is a case against me, it has to and it should reach to its logical conclusion as per the due process," Modi told IANS.
Both Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party have made Vadra a major target of their campaign, making him out as a symbol of corruption and nepotism associated with the UPA government. Vadra has been mocked as a "magician" who multiplied his wealth very fast.
The BJP had also released a video and booklet on Vadra's allegedly fraudulent land deals. It prompted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, campaigning for her mother Sonia and brother Rahul from Rae Bareli and Amethi, to describe it as "a bunch of lies".
