A man in Odisha was Saturday sentenced to seven years in jail for possessing fake Indian currency notes with a face value Rs.28,000, police said.
The court of the second additional sessions judge in Cuttack, 25 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, also ordered Sanjay Kumar Biswal to pay a fine of Rs.5,000 after pronouncing him guilty, a police official told IANS.
The police crime branch registered a case against Biswal Sep 3, 2012, after he was found in possession of 16 fake notes of Rs.500 denomination and 20 fake notes of Rs.1,000 denomination.
Biswal, a resident of Chadradeipur village in Cuttack district, was arrested after a probe found he was procuring the notes from Malda district of West Bengal.
