A middle aged man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping his seven-year-old sister-in-law in West Bengal's Hooghly district, police said.
"Today (Wednesday) we arrested a man for allegedly raping his seven-year-old sister-in-law. The victim has been sent to a government hospital for a medical test to ascertain rape," an officer of the Goghat police station said.
The incident happened in the early hours Wednesday in Goghat in the district, some 92 km from Kolkata.
According to police, the accused was sleeping beside the Class 3 student. He woke her up around 2 a.m. and took her to a secluded spot behind the house and raped her.
"She came to me early in the morning with her clothes soaked in blood. When I inquired, she told me what her sister's husband raped her," said the victim's mother.
The family filed a police complaint. The accused was arrested.
