A labourer was killed and at least three others were injured in a fire following an explosion in a chemical factory in Dombivli town, near here in Maharashtra, early Monday.
According to an official of Manpada police, the explosion, which followed a massive fire, took place in Chemistar Co. in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area of the town, just before 6 a.m.
Clouds of dark smoke were seen billowing from the massive complex, and four fire engines battled to douse the blaze.
Later, four persons were rescued from the disaster site. One man, identified as Pramod Gharat, was declared dead.
The cause of the fire and explosion are not known, and top district officials are probing the matter, a police official attached to the Sanpada police station said.
