West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who once had described a gruesome rape as "fabricated", is getting a dose of her own medicine, with the opposition unanimously slamming her over "falsely implicating" famed singer and BJP candidate Babul Supriyo.

Supriyo, contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Asansol in Burdwan district, was summoned by police after local Trinamool leader Senapati Mandal filed complaints against him accusing him of several offences including the Arms Act.

Incidentally, the case was filed subsequent to the singer lodging a police complaint accusing Mandal and other Trinamool activists of heckling him and assaulting his partymen while campaigning in Raniganj.

"It seems that Trinamool is getting wary of Supriyo that is why it has fabricated a case against him under the Arms Act. It is only the beginning, lot more of the like is waiting to happen," said Forward Bloc leader Udayan Guha

Echoing similar views, state Bharatiya Janata Party president Rahul Sinha said: "A chief minister for whom everything is fabricated... it is not surprising to use her administration and put up a fabricated case. It shows her desperation to stop the BJP."

"Her political career is shajano (fabricated)," quipped Congress leader Om Prakash Mishra condemning the administration move against the singer.

Veteran Marxist leader and former state minister Asok Bhattacharya said the case was filed at Banerjee's instructions.

"This has been done at the instructions of the chief minister and by doing this she herself, her party and the government are unmasking themselves," said Bhattacharya of the Communist Party of India-Marxist.

The singer against whom the district administration earlier turned down a complaint alleging he had entered a temple inebriated, appeared before police accompanied by his lawyer.
