A total of 1,119 Iraqis were killed and 1,561 others wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts in March across Iraq, a UN statement said on Friday.

The statement by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said the figures included 575 civilians killed and 1,196 wounded, Xinhua reported.

It said the UN envoy to Iraq and the UNAMI chief Jan Kubis "expressed his deep concern at the continuing violence and casualties in Iraq".

"I am extremely disturbed at the continuing loss of life and injury as a result of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts. It is totally unacceptable that civilians should bear the brunt of violence," Kubis said.

He said that latest political reforms including substantial shake-up, announced Thursday by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, could give hope for better future in the country.

"I hope that the proposed reforms will be implemented and will lead to an eventual normalcy in this beautiful country," Kubis added.

A month ago, the toll of casualties in February registered 670 people killed and 1,290 others injured in terrorist attacks and violence across the country.

Iraq is currently witnessing a wave of violence since the IS controlled parts of Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014.
