More than two crore voters in the country are aged between 18 and 19 years, the Election Commission said Thursday.
"Out of a total of 814,591,184 voters in the country, 23,161,296 are between 18-19 years, thus constituting 2.8 percent of the national electorate," the commission said, citing its 2014 data that was released Feb 14.
Among the 28 states and seven union territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli has the highest number of young voters at 9.88 percent, followed by Jharkhand (9.03 percent).
While, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 1.1 percent has the lowest proportion of such voters followed by Himachal Pradesh at 1.3 percent.
In absolute numbers, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with more than 38.1 lakh voters between 18 and 19, followed by West Bengal (around 20.8 lakh).
