Peace on the border is the foundation of bilateral ties with China and special representatives of both countries will look into the recent border intrusion by Chinese troops, India's envoy to China said Monday.

India's Ambassador to China S. Jaishankar told media persons here that Chinese premier Li Keqiang's visit to the country was significant, substantive and productive.

He said China's response to India's concerns on flow of trans-border rivers was "sympathetic".

Jaishankar, who addressed the media with Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, said the two sides discussed trade relations and infrastructure.

Referring to high-level visits slated to China, Jaishankar said Defence Minister A.K. Antony, National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma will visit the country soon.

Jaishankar said the two sides will also hold strategic economic dialogue.

India has conveyed to China that peace and tranquility on the border was "the foundation of our relationship", he said.

"Special representatives will meet to consider further measures to strengthen peace and tranquility," the envoy said.

Referring to the Chinese incursion in Ladakh as "very unusual", Jaishankar said that the special representatives will examine how the incident occurred and the existing mechanisms between the two countries to deal with border issues.

"If they have suggestions, both sides will look into them," Jaishankar said.
