Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday said a peak demand for 7,000 megawatt electricity was anticipated in the national capital this summer and his department was prepared to handle the situation.

"As per the projections, the peak demand in Delhi is expected to reach 7,000 MW during the coming summer," an official statement quoting Jain said.

Jain said the Power Department ensured over 99 per cent power supply during peak summer months in 2017, adding that the target was to improve on this figure in 2018.

"During the 2017 summer season, Delhi witnessed an all-time peak demand for 6,526 MW electricity... this peak demand was successfully met by the Delhi transmission and distribution system."

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has issued directions to the Power Department on the action plan on power availability.

"In order to reduce consumer grievances and for monitoring the power supply situation in Delhi, the Chief Minister has issued specific directions to the Power Department for taking measures to be taken by power discoms for strengthening the consumer complaints handling mechanisms and for submission of daily reports on consumer plaints and system breakdowns," the statement said.
