Former Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat has lodged a police complaint against some imposters who are calling up senior Congress leaders in his name and seeking money for "personal emergencies".

In his complaint Thursday, Kamat has said the conmen had been seeking lakhs of rupees to pay for urgencies ranging from accidents to sudden illnesses.

"Several Congress leaders Gurudas Kamat (of Maharashtra), (former Punjab chief minister) Amrinder Singh and (cabinet minister) Sachin Pilot were telephoned by the impersonators," police said.

A first information report had been filed under section 420 (cheeating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier in October 2012, an unidentified man posing as Kamat had convinced Congress MP from Maharashtra and newspaper baron Vijay Darda to shell out Rs.34 lakh.

An FIR to the effect had been filed at a police station in Pune.
