Moscow, May 14 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A police officer in Russia's Irkutsk region who shot dead a bear that had killed a man will be recognised for his act, either with an official citation or a bonus, an interior ministry representative said.
Last week, a brown bear attacked two men in a forest, killing one. The other was able to run away and raise the alarm.
Police officer Sergei Kazantsev, a forest ranger and a hunting watchdog inspector followed a trail of blood to the scene of the attack.
As they examined the body of the dead man, the bear appeared and charged at them.
Kazantsev raised his submachine gun and fired a burst at the approaching animal, killing it on the spot.
