President greets people on Raksha Bandhan eve

President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday greeted the nation on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.

"On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I convey warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens in India and abroad," the president said in a statement issued here.

"The thread of Rakhi binds sisters and brothers in an inseparable bond of love and trust."

He added: "the festival underlines the need for enhancing efforts for the welfare of women and for all men to do their utmost to ensure the safety and security of women in society."
