President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday underlined the need to equip the youth with necessary skills through proper training and facilitate their greater interaction with the industry.

"Majority of our population will increasingly be in the working age group in the coming years. To tap this demographic dividend and to bridge the demand-supply gap of skilled workforce, it is essential to equip our youth with necessary skills through proper training of good quality," the President said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a new academic block of Intensive Khadi and Rural Development Centre (IKRDC) in the memory of his wife late Suvra Mukherjee at Kirnahar in West Bengal.

The President stated that the new academic block of IKRDC would prove useful in providing training to a larger number of people in the area.

Apart from the importance of training, the President also stressed on the need for interaction with the industry and establishing linkages with the market and local institutions.

Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Member of Parliament and Chairman of IKRDC Abhijit Mukherjee and KVIC Deputy CEO (Eastern Zone) Satya Pal.
