Elvis Presley's former wife Priscilla says she had left the late singer shocked when she asked for a divorce.

The 71-year-old actress, who was married to the late music legend for six years from 1967, says the musician was surprised when she wanted to quit the relationship. She also says she didn't end their relationship because she fell out of love with her former partner, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"It was a shock. I didn't divorce him because I didn't love him. He was the love of my life," Priscilla said on a TV show.

"As a woman, I didn't know who I was. I realised, 'I don't know who I am'," she added.

Priscilla said she left the "Can't help falling in love" hitmaker because she wanted to find out more about the world.

"I left because I needed to find out what the world was like. It was one world but we still loved each other," she said.

Priscilla also said she still held a soft spot for Elvis -- who died in 1977 -- even after their break up. However, she never needed therapy to cope with the end of their relationship.

"It was a journey but I never had therapy," she said.
