The judicial inquiry commission to be set up by the Tamil Nadu government to probe the death of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has to look into her past five year medical records and the treatment given to her, a spokesperson for the AIADMK faction led by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said on Thursday.

"The inquiry commission should study and probe five years medical records of Jayalalithaa and the kind of treatment given to her. The probe should not restrict itself to the treatment given to her in Apollo Hospital (where she died)," K.C. Palaniswamy, former MP of AIADMK, told IANS.

He said the terms of reference of the inquiry commission and the time frame within which the proposed commission should submit its report should be looked at.

"If the needle of suspicion points towards anybody pertaining to Jayalalithaa's death, then a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe should be ordered," Palaniswamy said.

He said the ruling AIADMK faction led by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami was moving towards a merger with the faction led by Panneerselvam.

One of the demands by Panneerselvam was a judicial probe into the circumstances that led to the death of Jayalalithaa in December last year. The AIADMK then broke up into factions.

The pro-Panneerselvam Palaniswami said the next step towards a merger of the two factions was calling a General Council meeting and declaring the appointment of the now jailed General Secretary V.K. Sasikala as invalid.

Panneerselvam had also wanted that Sasikala and her family members must be kept out of the party.
