The Netherlands football coach Guus Hiddink has called up Quincy Promes as replacement for Arjen Robben for the forthcoming internationals against Turkey and Spain.
Robben got injured during Sunday's Bundesliga match of his club Bayern Munich against Borussia Monchengladbach. He limped off after 24 minutes with a torn stomach muscle and will be sidelined for several weeks. Therefore he had to withdraw for the Dutch team on Monday, reports Xinhua.
The 23-year-old Spartak Moscow forward Promes debuted for the Dutch team last year and so far he played three internationals.
With the absence of vice-captain Robben and captain Robin van Persie (ankle injury), the question now is who will be the captain of the Dutch team in the forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Turkey on March 28 and the friendly against Spain on March 31, both in Amsterdam.
The Netherlands are on a disappointing third place with six points from four matches in Euro 2016 qualifying Group A. Czech Republic (12 points) and Iceland (nine points) are one and two and Turkey are fourth, two points behind the Dutch team.
