Writer-director Vijit Sharma, who is coming up with a psychological thriller titled "Mirror Game: Ab Khel Shuru", says the genre has not been explored enough in Indian cinema, and so, getting a producer to support such a film is challenging.

Sharma, who has also co-produced the film, told IANS here: "I am a storyteller first. So when I wrote the story of the film which has various elements, I did not want any creative interference from any studio or producer as it usually happens to commercialize a story for box office success.

"That is a challenge. I think psychological thriller is an unexplored genre in Indian films. I attempted to explore it through my story."

The film revolves around the story of a professor who deals with the tussle between his personal and professional life. The role is essayed by actor Parvin Dabas.

Asked why he cast Parvin, Sharma said: "While developing the character, his image was coming in my mind. So after finishing the script, I asked him and he loved his part. You can say, he was the first choice for me."

Sharma says he is aware that the film might not appeal to the masses, but he feels it will gradually drive him to the zone of commercial Hindi cinema.

"I know for a fact that it is not a masala film like romantic com and action films that takes centre stage in commercial Bollywood films... This is an indie film. But we indie filmmakers have to start from somewhere and slowly we can bridge the gap between two styles of cinema.

"As a filmmaker, that is what I aim to do," he said.

The film "Mirror Game: Ab Khel Shuru" is releasing on June 2.
