R.K. Mathur, a 1977 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Manipur-Tripura cadre, took over as defence secretary Saturday.
According to an official release, Mathur has a rich and varied experience in public administration and has held senior positions at state and central levels.
He has held the position of chief secretary of Tripura. He also served as the additional secretary and special secretary in the ministry of defence.
Prior to his appointment as defence secretary, Mathur was secretary-defence production.
He succeeds Shashikant Sharma, who has been appointed as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
