The threat of rain looms over the second cricket Test between India and New Zealand at the Eden Gardens here with the India Meterological Department forecasting thundershowers and thunderstorm on the first four days of the match that begins on September 30.

However, cricket lovers would take heart from the much-improved drainage facilities at the iconic ground after Sourav Ganguly took charge as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president.

According to IMD data, there would be thunderstorm with rain on the two days preceding the game.

"Party cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm," reads the forecast for the first two days of the match on September 30 and October 1.

Rain or thundershowers are predicted on the third and fourth days of the game, where an Indian win will catapult the hosts to the numero uno position in ICC Test match standings, besides bagging the three-Test series.

India are already 1-0 up following an emphatic victory in the first Test match at Kanpur.
