Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray's son Amit was engaged to his longtime girlfriend and fashion designer Mitali Borude at a small ceremony here on Monday afternoon.
The betrothal was held at a restaurant inside the Mahalaxmi Race Course, and attended by around five dozen select family members from both sides, friends of the couple and a handful of guests, sources said.
However, Amit's uncle, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray and other family members (of Uddhav) were not present.
Nevertheless, his famous aunt, Bollywood filmmaker Smita Thackeray (the ex-wife of Jaidev Thackeray - another cousin of Raj Thackeray), attended the ceremony.
Amit posted a picture of the engagement ceremony with the writing on the wall - of his Facebook page - acknowledging his fiance Mitali: 'A New boss in the house'.
Dating Amit since the past few years, Mitali runs a clothesline label called 'The Rack' and is a friend of his sister Urvashi Thackeray.
Later, the guests were treated to a special vegetarian lunch with lot of merrymaking and celebrations for the young couple.
The wedding date, which has not been announced, is likely to take place sometime next year, one of the invitees and senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar told IANS.
Though Amit has not formally joined politics, he has occasionally hit the campaign trail with his father and mother Sharmila, during BMC elections earlier this year and campaigned online on social media networks.
