Return to Swadeshi products: RSS chief

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat Friday advocated a return to Swadeshi products.

"It is necessary that policies of the government should take the nation towards self-reliance... encourage entrepreneurship among people... It is equally important for people to encourage consumption of Swadeshi products," Bhagwat said.

He was addressing the RSS annual Vijaya Dashami rally near the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

Without naming any specific country, Bhagwat frowned on the tendency of buying daily need goods, even foreign made statues of our gods and goddesses, simply because they are cheaper, and called for ending this trend.

"We must remember self-reliance should be a necessary component of national prosperity and security... India should evolve a new and suitable development model... the final test of efficacy of these policies will be their impact on the life of the last Indian standing on the last step of the ladder," exhorted Bhagwat.
