Sailoz Mookherjea, a pioneer of modernism in India had impacted the art world and created a niche for himself in the post-independence era. And to again bring back his art works in the limelight, a series of 20 paintings have been put at an exhibition at the Dhoomimal Art Centre.

The exhibition, which is on till November 30, is an opportunity to rethink the chronology of modernity in Indian art through Sailoz Mukherjee's works. Leaving aside two, all the other 18 art works displayed are from his last phases of his work.

"He belonged to an era when art was valued and mattered. His works mostly evokes different shades of human emotions. Some of the paintings put on exhibition are from my own collection as well," said Partha Chatterjee, art connoisseur.

"His arts works are listed as National Treasures. His artistic career was short, but he left behind an enormous but little known treasure represented in his own personal visual language," he further added.

His works have a dynamic movement that takes the viewer on a long journey far beyond the surface or his paintings. A deep fascination for the French Masters, he went on to develop his own unique approach at creating art. His use of colour creates an awareness of the timeless world suggesting action and emotion.
